About Dan

Dan Johnson is the founder, CEO and President of DMJ & Associates, an independent wealth planning firm based in Austin, Texas.   He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration – Finance from the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire in 1988.  Following his career with Dain Bosworth in Minneapolis, the nation’s 9th largest investment banking firm, Dan established his own wealth management consulting firm in 1998.

Professionally, Dan is a Certified Estate Planner™, has authored numerous articles for legal and financial trade journals and has been featured in many publications on issues involving financial planning, estate planning and post-divorce financial issues.

He is involved with various estate planning councils and organizations as well as a member of the National Committee on Planned Giving®. He frequently serves as a guest lecturer and conducts workshops for attorneys, CPA’s, financial advisors and numerous charitable organizations.

Dan also works with clients and attorneys on the financial aspects of divorce. As a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst™, he helps his clients make the best informed financial decisions during, and after, a divorce.   Since 2001, he has worked on nearly 600 divorce cases within Central Texas.  Dan works closely with many of the top family law attorneys in Austin and has extensive experience with property settlement cases, negotiations, settlement proposals, mediations and even serves as an expert witness in court.  Both attorneys and clients rely on Dan for his experience with complex property settlements and negotiations – issues involving asset valuations, tax implications and asset liquidity as well as issues involving disproportion divisions, spousal support and child support.

Over the course of his 27 year career, Dan has developed the ability to identify the crucial issues, explain the effects of choices, and offer alternative solutions to his client’s financial and estate planning needs. He has the answers to the questions you didn’t know to ask.
